This course examines the stepwise approach to asthma management, and addresses the role pharmacists can play in improving patient outcomes in people with asthma.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recall the pathophysiology and clinical features of asthma
  • Recognise the drug classes used in the step wise management of asthma
  • Identify the different inhalers used in the treatment of asthma and the correct technique for administration
  • Recognise the role that pharmacists can play in identifying patients with sub-optimally managed asthma
  • Recognise examples of professional services and clinical interventions pharmacists can implement to optimise health outcomes for patients with asthma
